The Pyramids at Giza were built by the Pharaohs of the Old Kingdom; Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus. Chephren is shown here.
The Capital of Egypt at that time was at Memphis which is close to Giza and modern Cairo.

Trade was important, but Egypt kept herself isolated and grew in wealth and sophistication.

There were powerful city states within Egypt during this time and down through the ages.
