Pakhet was a merged form of Bast and Sekhmet. The cult site for Pakhet was
at Beni Hassan. Pakhet was a war gods.
Pakhet appeared during the Middle Kingdom, when Bastet was considered less
a lioness and more a gentle domesticated cat.
The character of Pakhet was a huntress who wandered the desert alone at night
looking for prey. She was called the Night Huntress with sharp eye and pointed
claw. Pakhet was associated with desert storms.
Pakhet was depicted as a feline-headed woman, or as a feline, often killing
snakes with her sharp claws. Pakhet and Sekhmet were depicted in a similar manner.
A large underground shrine was built by Hatshepsut for Pakhet at Beni Hassan
and mummified cats have been found buried there.
