The Theban Triad - Amun, Mut and Khons
Amun - Amun, the King of the Gods. Amun was elevated to this position during the New Kingdom. When Kames and Ames fought to reunify Egypt, they fought under the banner of their God Amun of the Nome at Thebes. The cult of Amun grew to be the most powerful and wealthy of the religious cults during the New Kingdom. When Akhenaten decreed the supreme diety of Aten, he closed the Temples of Amun and built a temple to Aten at Karnak. Amun, however, triumphed. The people of Egypt demanded a reinstatement of Amun, and he reigned as the supreme god until all the gods of Egypt perished with the onslaught of Christianity. Mut - Mut, consort to Amun. The mother goddess of the New Kingdom, the queen of the gods at Waset (Thebes). She came to represent the Eye of Ra, the ferocious goddess of retribution and daughter of the sun god Ra. Khons - Khons, the son of Amun and Mut. The god of the moon and time. One of the companions of Thoth. Khonsu is a great lover of games, and is frequently shown playing a game of Senet against Thoth.
