The Temples at Abydos and Dendera: Suggested Itinerary While in Egypt

Relief of Seti I and Rameses II with Kings List

Dendera and Abydos are located north of Luxor.

We came there by car and driver. The drive was a bit too fast, as there was a lot of territory to cover to get to both sites. There were several security check points along the way.

It will take most of a day to visit both the sites. You should take as much time as possible, as they are both relatively intact and both contain many beautiful reliefs.

Abydos and Dendera are open for tourists to travel down from Luxor via car for the 2001 season. But, as always, it is best to check local sources and your own consulate for advice.

The Lonely Planet covers Abydos and Dendera on pages 258-265, and has practical suggestions on how to get there.

The Penguin Guide covers Abydos and Dendera on pages 269-284, and includes discussions of reliefs in the temples.
